Fisioterapia respiratoria

Pediatric respiratory physiotherapy is a specialty that provides specific care for children with respiratory difficulties. Have you ever wondered what exactly a session of this type involves? We will detail it below.

Treatment Objectives

  1. Mucus Removal: Our main goal is to get rid of that annoying, obstructive mucus.
  2. Promoting Correct Respiratory Function: We help children maintain proper hygiene and ventilatory mechanics.

Time to Go

  • When snot prevents your baby from sleeping, eating or breathing properly.
  • If you detect a productive cough in the child.
  • In subacute processes of bronchiolitis or pneumonia.
  • As a preventive measure for children with a history of recurrent or chronic respiratory problems.

Session Procedure

Exploration:

  • Assessment of the child's general condition.
  • Auscultation to listen to lung sounds.
  • Measurement of vital signs such as respiratory rate, heart rate and oxygen saturation. These are monitored throughout the session to ensure the child's well-being. If at any time it is not safe to continue, the patient will be referred to the pediatrician or emergency room.

Treatment:

  • Nebulization with serum, isotonic or hypertonic depending on each case, to hydrate the respiratory tract.
  • Mobilization of mucus lodged in the bronchial tree using manual techniques.
  • Stimulation or direction of coughing, facilitating the expulsion of previously hydrated and mobilized mucus.
  • Education for families on how to manage and control their children's respiratory problems.
